May: Youth Service Month: Rotary Youth Exchange is Rotary’s exchange program for youth and young adults. It allows students to spend up to a year living in a different country and learning a new culture. Students ages 15-19 can participate in a long-term exchange of up to one year, or they can choose a short-term exchange, which can last from several days to several weeks. New Generations Exchanges for young adults ages 18-25 can range from a few weeks to three months. Rotary clubs and districts sponsor exchange participants, who serve as ambassadors for their countries.
Thursday night found members and partners gathered at the Home Economics Centre of Rochester Secondary
College loaded up with the ingredients of their favourite cakes & slices.
A phone call to Graeme ensured that Jeanette found her way to the Centre. After all, the last time she attended a function at the Secondary College, the Cookery Centre (as it was then known) was in the brick building facing Edward Street and was the section of the school destroyed in the fire of 1982. As a result of the evening, and with the extra cooking done at home and by Friends of the Club, we should have a well stocked stall at Bunnings on Saturday.
Jeanette, busy at work.
Who is easier to control? A class of teenagers or Rotary Members?
Training Day – “My Rotary”: Several members expressed interest in this training to be held on Saturday 4th June. ADG Greg to be notified of numbers wishing to attend.
Court House: Notification has been received that our application for a volunteer grant from the Department of Social Services has been successful. This grant will cover the purchase and installation of a split system reverse cycle air conditioner for the main room.
