 May: Youth Service Month                                                                                                                                                          Youth Service Month recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, service projects and exchange programs and aims to provide innovative and practical opportunities to assist and motivate young people in our communities to acquire learning and life skills.

Pres. Noel welcomed Rotarians Heather, Gay, Graeme, Bryan, Ray and Stewart and Rotary Partners Jeanette, Pam and Robyn with a special welcome to Rhonda Hynes, President of Rochester Probus Club.

LOA: Rtn. Russell – latest news from Russell: – We are at our eighth house and this one is the furthest from work so far. It takes me 25 minutes to walk there and last Monday it was down to 7 degrees. I commence work at 6am and I am still at Woolworths and enjoying it. Jenny is doing 5 or 6 shifts a fortnight. We are going to drive down to Perth next week, I hope to see Richmond have a win. It is 1200k away. I have taken some leave and sons Paul and David are flying over for the match.

Training Day – “My Rotary”: Several members expressed interest in this training to be held on Saturday 4th June. ADG Greg to be notified of numbers wishing to attend.

“Anything Goes”: It was decided that in lieu of the meeting of Thursday, 26th May, members & partners would attend this latest production of the Echuca Moama Theatre Company commencing at 7.30pm at the Paramount Theatre, Echuca.

Pres. Noel thanked all those who assisted with the last roster of Meals on Wheels and with the Pie & Port Night. Plans are well in hand for the Changeover Luncheon on Sunday, 19th June with invitations distributed during the week. Members are reminded of the Changeover Dinners for our neighbouring clubs, the dates of which are available on the Bulletin of 14th April. Further details will be distributed as they are made available and members are then responsible for making their own arrangements for payment etc.

ROADEC: PP Graeme informed the meeting that 2 new trainers have been employed to assist with the program.

The Bus: PP Ray was able to inform members that the long awaited permit for the shed has now been lodged.

Rochester Probus Club: As Probus celebrates its 40th year President Rhonda is keen to establish a closer relationship with RC Rochester. She thanked Pres. Noel & Robyn for their assistance during the recent visit by the Ouyen Probus Club, when afternoon tea was served at the Court House. Now into its 18th year, Rochester Probus Club has a membership of 125 with an average attendance at meetings of 80 to 95. Members enjoy trips away and have recently returned from 10 days at Nelson Bay.

A joint Rotary/Probus trip to Brim to view the painted silos is to be investigated.

News from Akira (exchange student 1965-66): At present Akira in spending a few days in hospital for his latest round of chemo but has finalised his itinerary and booked his tickets for a visit to Australia in June accompanied by his son & daughter, Kenji and Tomoko. Arrangements are in hand to have as many of Akira’s past school mates present when he visits Rochester on Saturday 18th June. None of his former hosts remain with us, several of them being ex POWs with others being Returned Servicemen. As Robyn, one of his host sisters noted, “Akira’s presence in Rochester 51 years ago did much to heal past grievances.”
