Know Your Kidney Health – Risk Factors

28_illustrations_all_44-1

One in three Australians is at increased risk of kidney disease. If undetected and untreated it is a silent killer. Some factors you cannot control, others you can control by diet, exercise and life changes.

Kidney Health Australia:

Several members of the public joined members to hear the address from Jo Fairbairn and her team from Kidney IMG_2573Health Australia. Jo told of the story of The Big Red Kidney Bus, Vince’s dream, and the impact it has had on the lives of dialysis patients who are now able to plan a holiday with family and friends. In its first year the Big Red Kidney Bus was the Victorian Gold Medal Winner Innovative Models of Care and won the National Excellence in Community Accessibility Award.

Risk factors for Kidney disease were discussed along with ways to maintain kidney health.

Yvonne & Shannon then led us through the educational program they present to primary school children. They told of the children’s reactions when seeing the 16 spoonfuls of sugar contained in a 600ml can of soft drink or the 23kg that would be consumed if one can of soft drink was consumed each day of a year.

During supper, the team was available to answer the many questions from an attentive audience.

Directors’ Reports: Directors are asked to submit reports, in Word format, for inclusion in the Annual Report by next week, 12th May.
