News from Ainaro: PP Heather has now settled into life in Ainaro after spending 2 days showing Carmel
the sights of Dili and going through the formalities of visa extension. En route to Ainaro they visited the
Dare Memorial and were shown over the Bendigo-Maubisse Friendship Group’s kitchen project at the
Maubisse Convent. Lindsay & team provided them with a roast meal that evening followed by lots of
discussion about the projects both groups are involved in.
The first few days in Ainaro were spent with the members of Term 2 Team, going through the programme
and getting to know the students. Heather has found it interesting to have a few teachers from the presecondary
and secondary schools in the classes – their students treat them with the utmost respect and
support and help them with their learning. Several of her 2012 students are attending classes while others
have greeted her on her walks around the town.
