Next meeting: 22nd January at the Wine Bar, 6.00 for 6.30pm. This will be a Board Meeting so please have all reports prepared.
Our meeting of January 15th was a Luncheon Meeting held at the Criterion Hotel. Pres. Noel welcomed Rotarians Heather, Stewart, Russell and Ray, and Rotary Partners Pam & Robyn. A special welcome was extended to Joe Flynn and it was great to see Joe looking so well following his stay with his brother in northern NSW.
International Service: As the Bendigo Expo is now to be held on Australia Day, Rochester RC will not be taking part as our members are committed to assisting/attending Australia Day celebrations in Rochester.
Court House: Members reconvened at the Court House at the usual meeting time to continue with the cleaning and preparation of the walls. Some experimentation during the week showed that a steel brush was the most efficient way to clean the window frames, so suitably armed and with a little extra elbow grease members now have the front room ready for its coat of paint and are well on the way to completing the preparation of the windows in the main hall.
During the evening we were visited by representatives of C4R who informed us of the status of the Mural Festival to be held during the week of March 1st to 8th. Ten murals are to be painted and the committee was keen to discuss how Rotary may be involved and how the Court House could be utilised during the Festival. The planned Photography Exhibition in the Court House was seen to be complementary to the Festival and an added incentive to have visitors coming through the town to stop and look. It has been suggested that refreshments and tea and coffee be sold from the front room of the Court House and that a voucher system be implemented to supply refreshments to the artists and volunteers. The artists’ paints and supplies will be stored in a locked, covered trailer that can be parked in the grounds.
