November – Rotary Foundation
At the 1917 Rotary International Convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928 the endowment was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International.
The Rotary Foundation is regarded as “the engine room” which drives Rotary to cross world borders and political boundaries in order to achieve Rotary’s ultimate goal of advancing world understanding, goodwill and peace. The Rotary Foundation helps fund humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives, often in collaboration with many civic and humanitarian organisations as well as government agencies.
Pres. Noel welcomed Rotarians Heather, Gay, Graeme, Bryan, Ray and Noel, Rotary Partners Jeanette & Robyn and Guest Speaker Jenny Mustey.
Apologies were received from Russell (LOA) and Stewart and Pam.

Court House: Pres. Noel had much pleasure informing members that the application for a Foundation Grant to assist with the installation of the disabled entry to the Court House has been successful.
We are now waiting on the outcome of small grant applications to FRRR and Dept. of Social Services. If successful, our heating/cooling problems will be resolved. Meanwhile the ongoing saga of the gas connection continues. Would hate to add up the hours & phone calls that have been made over the past 2 months will still no result.
Pres. Noel & Sec. Heather had a very productive meeting last week with representatives of the Mural Festival Committee. Rotary & CWA will provide catering and will hold exhibitions in the entry and meeting room. The use of the Hall will be negotiated once the final artists are selected and if the Mural Festival decides to hold an exhibition of their work.
Guest Speaker: Jenny Mustey, Shire of Campaspe Library Services Manager informed members of the Let’s Read program developed by the Murdoch Children’s Research Foundation and The Royal Children’s Hospital in response to falling literacy levels. Let’s Read promotes reading with children from birth to five years. Its vision is for all Australian children to share books, stories, songs and nursery rhymes every day from birth with the important people in their lives. The Shire of Campaspe has adopted the Let’s Read Community Program, providing resources and training for community based professionals The program was launched in Echuca in October 2014 and last week in Kyabram. It is hoped to launch the program in Rochester as part of Kidzcappers to be held in March 2016.
Jenny showed members the bags and books that are presented to the children at various ages and explained the resources that are available in the Shire’s Libraries.
